The US Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) has a water-level system on a 10-ft. Parshall flume. The flume resides on the Carbon Canal between Helper and Price, UT. The system consists of a potentiometer-based float/pulley assembly that measures stage, our CR510 datalogger, and a cellular phone link using a Campbell Scientific COM310 voice-synthesis phone modem. Water users can call the site and hear a voice telling them the water level and discharge. A marine deep-cycle battery that is charged by a 20-W solar panel powers the system.
