The UTBASE is used to mount either the UT20 or UT30 tower to a concrete pad, rock, or roof using any 3/4-10 stud. When compared with the B18 base, the UTBASE is more corrosion resistant for use in corrosive or marine environments. The durability of the UTBASE makes the kit more expensive than the B18, but the UTBASE is less expensive to ship because of its size and weight.
Whereas the B18 requires the bottom tower section from a UT20 or UT30 to fixture while pouring the concrete, the UTBASE can be installed onsite before the tower arrives using an optional template to hold the anchor bolts in place and potentially make it easier to pour the concrete. (The template is optional because it can be reused for the installation of multiple towers.) The UTBASE allows for small adjustments to be made after the concrete has cured to ensure that the tower is true/plumb.
If you use 3/4-10 concrete anchors in existing concrete and the concrete does not meet the recommended size of 0.91 x 0.91 x 1.22 m deep (36 x 36 x 48 in. deep), Campbell Scientific recommends the use of guy wires as well.
